This was one of the first films that made the true gifts of quality post-Bondian Sean Connery to the test. Would you believe a convincing Scottish could be a Berber leader? I would not, but Connery is, and makes it charming and funny, mischievous. He is Muley Sharif Ahmed Mohammed al-Raisuli, dominated by an uncle of the young figurehead Sultan of Morocco (which was in 1904, an international protectorate of France, Germany and Spain), who, having betrayed anddetained for years to escape his brother (Vladek Sheybal), now the Bashaw, and the real power behind the throne, made his way through the mountains, and was accepted in the Berber tribes Rifiano. Since then it has become their supreme leader and assembled a "war" against the Europeans, who usually kidnappings for ransom. Until now, let alone Americans, but one day in October, he and his warriors on the home page of Eden Pedecaris woman (Candace Bergen), a widow living a descentcomfortable existence over the city of Tangier, and getting comfortable with herself and her two sons, aged 13, William (Simon Harrison) and 11 years, Jennifer (Polly Gottesman), to kill each other, and an easement of many guests. If the word revolt reached the U.S., with President Teddy Roosevelt (Brian Keith), a fight for his re-election (after the assassination of McKinley took office three years before), start asking now "Pedecaris or aliveRaisuli dead! "Against the advice of veteran John Hay (John Huston), shipments, he is a load of marines to take the Moroccan government and deal directly with Raisuli. Meanwhile, the leader and its captivity to learn slowly, and also compared each other - and exercise a colossal bluff each other, as Mrs. Pedecaris Raisuli trying to convince them to release them and even saved engineers an escape, only to be cheated by corrupt guards and Raisuli a splendid one-manDuel a dozen hostile tribes. (Your children are more or less defined the riff: William dreams are taught to drive and shoot and a robber. Note the scene where the two wings of this chair Raisuli William wears a hat and holding the Berber Dagger wore thin one of the lieutenants and Jennifer in the desert robes and your sword Raisuli.) By the time they are issued, only to betray Raisuli again and seecaptured by the Sultan of German military advisers, Mrs. Pedecaris came to him to feel so deeply that help them recruit naval escort him out.
The story moves back and forth between Morocco and the United States, the scenes are focused primarily on Teddy, which comes as not too dissimilar to Raisuli in many ways. In addition to scoring a majestic and exciting Goldsmith Jerry Wind and the Lion (1975), a beautiful Arabian horse, and splendor of the desertseveral wonderful fight scenes, the best part of the film is the clash between culture and Raisuli Pedecaris Mrs. - and see Connery as part his own, although it would be nice to know exactly why the Germans decided to attack their helm for all his abduction, Raisuli is not really much of a threat to them. It combines elements of The King and I (50th Anniversary Edition), The Sheik and the Desert Song [VHS], plus actual events (it was a really Pedecariskidnapping, but the victim was a businessman greek), Stockholm Syndrome, and half of those romance novels ever written, it stands as one of the finest films of John Milius and a great story of adventure and cultures conflict. An elegant, massive, overwhelming story well told, and certainly a warrior today.
