"Moonlight" starts with a vampire in PI-back is interviewed in his mind, to define what is about the vampire legend and what is real. "I do not hunt innocents. But there are predators out there that need to be done."
It is a curious inversion of tradition Anne Rice, and sets the tone for a unique history of vampires and urban mix of mystery - and unfortunately it ended too soon. Especially since Alex O'Loughlin is a vampire detective absolutely impressed, and direction fast, goodCGI save and snappy writing this to be another vampire story cheese.
Mick St. John (O'Laughlin) is a vampire detective in Los Angeles - where there was recently a murder vampiresque a student. But even if the student has been obsessed with vampires, Mick realizes soon that are not killed by one. And with the help of Beth Turner (Sophia Myles) - Who says that looks familiar - Mick discovers a strange little vampire obsessed professor at Hearst College and Intriguehis infatuation with the undead goes beyond mere fanaticism.
And there are many other unpleasant possibilities - an ex-convict gunning for the detective-vampire, an enforced sojourn in the desert, "Black Crystal", a novice vampire wild teenage vampire kills a prostitute, a killer cult presumed dead, the path a killer's friend Beth, to kill a Hollywood starlet, an attempt to mentor Mick, and a vampire, the "out" every single vampire in LA threatened
But not a vampire storycomplete without the evil past and the romantic tension - Beth discovers the true nature of Mick, and finds herself attracted to him until he is struck by a terrible personal tragedy. And Mick is a woman who looks suspiciously Coraline (Shannyn Sossamon) - face his ex-wife died and the woman who made him a vampire.
Most vampire stories, whether on TV or in movies are so abysmally cheesy, which is cut into slices and serve with wine and biscuits. Fortunately, "Moonlight"happened a bit 'better - not very vampiric superpowers (beyond the senses and enhanced recovery), the teeth and burning eyes. The writer also pokes fun at some of the old clichés ("... garlic is good on pizza).
The weakest part of the "Moonlight" is the same offense - most are pretty ordinary thriller. But the series is not in balance with the vampire stuff Private Eye plot fails, and how the winds of series and is much more complex, the vampireIs the most important element of every story. Quick Camera Work dive, fast-moving plots, some good work of evil.
And these vampires, with a wink taken if they were not living common-place (slim minimalist apartments and villas), or the simple use of modern technology ("If I do not have a vampire on the Internet has become wrong , TiVo, World of Warcraft and GPS).
The style is slightly oblique with dialogue (Can Fly "You" helped ""Just like Superman." "Really?" "No ... it would be pretty cool, huh?"). For the record, the best lines, all of Joseph ('Well, the thirst for blood can be very difficult when you are on. And can you really lose. I know I did. Damn, those were the days! ").
Alex O'Loughlin as vampire PI is honored by his past and his vampire-haunted ("Monsters can not get Happy Ever After"), but manage with a wry sense of humor, brain and senses enhanced. Himselfruns through some ups and downs that most vampire fiction do not like to sort temporarily-man, but luckily O'Laughlin prevent him from being emo.
Myles is decent enough as a journalist rather than whether a man and a vampire can love begins to find, and Sossamon as Coraline is brilliant mysterious. And Jason Dohring absolutely steals the show funny, happy Josef amoral ("You are delicious. '82 Was a good year"), which has its own sad howeverPast.
"Moonlight" done to avoid the factor Cheeze, and all too brief series manages to be a unique blend of vampire story, love and mystery novel mixture. Not to be missed.
